Imagine riding in the passenger seat of a car speeding down the highway, and suddenly reaching over to grab the steering wheel from the driver because you think you know a better shortcut. The result is almost always a violent crash. For years, we treated God this way. We asked Him for help, but we constantly grabbed the steering wheel because we wanted to be in control. Recovery requires a radical shift in management. It requires us to stop leaning on our own flawed logic—which is what drove us into the ditch in the first place. Submission simply means trusting the Driver enough to take our hands off the wheel. When we finally stop wrestling with God for control and submit to His direction, He removes the chaotic detours and makes our paths straight. Surrender isn’t giving up your freedom; it’s finally finding a safe ride home. |
