Imagine spending all day exhausting yourself climbing a tall ladder, only to reach the top and realize it’s leaning against the wrong building. We spend so much energy in our lives trying to climb the ladder of ego. We promote ourselves, aggressively demand respect, and try to prove our worth to everyone around us. But building a life on pride is exhausting, and the higher we build our own pedestals, the harder the inevitable fall becomes. God’s economy works in reverse: the way up is down. When we choose to humble ourselves, we step off the wrong ladder. We stop trying to be the director of the universe and admit that we don’t have all the answers. When we voluntarily take the lower seat, we no longer have to worry about defending our pride. And the beautiful promise is that when we stop trying to lift ourselves up, God Himself steps in to elevate us in His perfect timing. |
